The Turks and Caicos Islands recently ranked third-best for family vacations out of 63 destinations in the world.

This was revealed in an analysis conducted by travel insurance site ‘InsureMyTrip’ which ranked global cities from most to least suitable as potential destinations for family vacations.

According to the study shared with TC Weekly News, InsureMyTrip extrapolated relevant travel data for key family vacation categories including quality of family hotels, quality of nearby beaches, quality of family attractions, sea temperature, wave height, the strength of ocean currents and overall area safety.

InsureMyTrip isolated each data point in addition to giving an overall category score.

This was done to give families an opportunity to target destinations for individual points (e.g. quantity of family attractions, ocean current strength or area safety).

Sarah Webber, Director of Marketing at InsureMyTrip, commenting on the study said: “As Covid-19 restrictions begin to relax and more families decide to vacation again, it is especially important they feel safe.

InsureMyTrip hopes the results of this study will help these families feel confident and secure in their decision to travel the world and make new and lasting memories.”

Of the 62 countries analysed, Dubai, UAE (7.42) ranked first, with Colombo, Sri Lanka second (6.71), Turks & Caicos (6.48) third, Barbados(6.37) fourth and Corfu, Greece (6.27) fifth.

The report said Dubai is fast becoming a family-friendly wonderland, offering access to a variety of theme parks.

Coupled with this, it’s deemed one of the safest cities in the world and is becoming a more affordable destination for families, offering all-inclusive resorts with an array of activities.

It was also recently voted the Best Global Destination thanks to the city’s innovative strategy to not only stay open during the pandemic but to do so in a monumentally safe and accessible manner. .

Colombo, Sri Lanka, received high scores for sea temperature (9.92), weak ocean current (8.61) and quality of family attractions (6.9).

This may not come as a surprise to its residents as recently, Sri Lanka was voted one of the best countries in the world to travel to, the report added.

Colombo was praised for its unique mix of sensory delights, it’s a must-visit for those who want to be inspired and awed.

It missed out on the top spot due to low-quality beaches (3.91) and quality family hotels (5.72).

The Turks and Caicos Islands came in third place with (6.48) points due to its ocean currents (8.86), sea temperature (8.43) and the quality of nearby beaches (8.41).

This isn’t the first time Turks and Caicos’ beaches were rated highly as Grace Bay Beach is voted the number one beach in the world in 2022, the report stated.

At the other end of the scale, Miami, USA (3.54) ranked the least suitable destination for family vacations.

It received the lowest score for weak ocean current (0), along with the quality of family hotels (0.69), quality of family attractions (1.36), area safety (4.04) and low wave height (4.91).

The crime rate in Miami is considerably higher than the national average, with the chances of becoming a victim being 1 in 28.

The city is also the number one city in America most vulnerable to hurricanes, with 40% of the hurricanes that occur in the U.S. hitting Florida.
