CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – No. 6 Texas Tech is tied for sixth after the opening round of the Cabo Collegiate on Sunday which is being played this week at the Cabo del Sol – Cove Club Course.
Baard Skogen is leading the Red Raiders through the first round after posting a 3-under, 68 on Sunday, while Andy Lopez is one stroke back at 2-under. Skogen is tied for seventh on the leaderboard and Lopez is in a group just within the top-20. Tech freshman Calum Scott recorded a round of 1-under, 70 and Ludvig Aberg has work to do after finishing at 3-over in his opening round.
No. 3 Oklahoma State leads the tournament at 13-under followed by Florida State (-12), Ole Miss (-10), No. 7 Arkansas (-8) and No. 10 Tennessee (-5) in the top-5 through 18 holes. The Red Raiders are currently tied wit No. 8 Stanford and No. 21 Vanderbilt at 3-under going into the second round on Monday. The second of three rounds begins at 9 a.m. (CST) on Monday before the final round on Tuesday.
Skogen has recorded two runner-up finishes this season and is currently No. 7 in the Golfstat rankings. Aberg, who is at No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, is coming off winning The Prestige last weekend which was his third collegiate victory.
Oklahoma State’s Brian Stark currently leads the tournament at 6-under followed by Gordon Sargent (Vanderbilt) and Chase Sienkiewicz (Arizona) who are both at 5-under.
