The 2022 MLB season is underway and MLB daily Fantasy players are in the process of honing in their MLB DFS strategy in hopes of having a profitable season. Being aware of the splits and targeting the most advantageous matchups is always critical and the Braves will be a popular option for MLB DFS stacks as they take on Patrick Corbin and the Nationals. As a team, Atlanta has a .917 OPS against Corbin and Ozzie Albies looks like a particularly savvy addition to your MLB DFS lineups with a 1.343 OPS off Corbin in his career.
On the other end of the spectrum, Phillies ace Zack Wheeler will take on a Mets squad that he has thoroughly dominated, with Mets hitters posting a .539 OPS against Wheeler as a team. But affording upper-echelon options like Wheeler and Albies will mean that you have to find more affordable options in the MLB DFS player pool. Before you make your MLB DFS picks, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.
McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.
On Monday, McClure had Twins outfielder Byron Buxton as one of his top MLB DFS picks on both FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Buxton went 2-for-3 with two doubles, drew a walk, stole a base and scored twice to return 21 points on DraftKings and 27.4 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, with the 2022 MLB season in full swing, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Tuesday, April 12. Head to SportsLine now to see them.
McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for April 12, 2022
One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Tuesday is Buxton, once again at $5,900 on DraftKings and $3,900 on FanDuel. The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft and made his Twins debut in 2015 but he struggled with injuries and wasn’t as productive offensively as the organization had hoped during his first four seasons in the majors.
However, Buxton began showing signs of growing into his potential offensively in 2018 and he’s steadily progressed as a hitter in the four years since. In 2021, Buxton posted a 1.002 OPS with 19 home runs and nine stolen bases over 254 plate appearances and would have been in the AL MVP conversation if not for multiple injuries that cost him 101 games. Now Buxton is healthy again and he’s off to a blistering start, going 5-for-15 with three home runs and two doubles in his first four games of the 2022 MLB season.
Another part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes rostering Braves third baseman Austin Riley ($4,700 on DraftKings and $4,000 on FanDuel). The former first-round pick was drafted by the Braves out of high school and proved himself as a capable hitter at every level on his way up to earning his MLB debut in 2019. He would then go on to hit 18 home runs in 297 plate appearances that season.
He’d add eight more homers over 206 plate appearances during the pandemic-shortened season before finally showcasing the ability that had made him a consensus top-30 prospect in 2021. Last season, Riley slashed .303/.367/.531 with 33 home runs and 107 RBIs, finished seventh in the NL MVP voting and won the Silver Slugger Award for third base. He’s off to a 5-for-17 start with a homer and two RBIs in 2022, and he’ll have a juicy matchup on Tuesday against Nationals left-hander Corbin.
